On March 25th, 1955, GM introduced a completely new Body Style for its Chevrolet and GMC Trucks-nicknamed the "55 Second Series"
Chevrolet named the stylish new model "Task-Force" With the introduction of a 265 cubic Inch OHV V-8 Engine resulted in the most Popular Series of Trucks ever built by General Motors
All "TF" beds are 50" Wide, by 78-18" Long with bed side depth at 17-9/16" top rail is flat.
55-59 Short-beds needs no front cross sill (front bed panel acts as sill), 2 center sills, and a rear crossmember (8 pine boards)
55-59 Short Step Side bed may also require a "Special 3rd Cross sill" This 3rd cross sill is not as deep as the other regular cross sills #1 & #2 as it sits above the rear axle arch on shortbeds
A "Long Bed" 89" in length was produced from 1955 to mid 1957 only. Late '57 through 1959, all Long Beds are 97" in length for stepside beds
1955-57 "early" Long-Beds need: front bed panel, 4 center cross sills, and 1 rear crossmember
"Late" 57-59 Long-Beds need: no front cross sill, 4 center cross sills, and 1 rear crosmember
All 55-59 Long Beds also use "Reinforcing Strips" (these help support the boards, but do not bolt to the bed sides or frame, but via extra drilled bed strip holes - designed for extra load bearing - they are not as tall as the regular sills)
55-58 "Cameo" and GMC "Carrier" bed is the same as the 1/2-ton and "also uses the Special 3rd Cross-sill" as described above.
We also sell the bed crossills in stainless steel *(except for the "third" crossill which is not available in Stainless Steel - uses 3 of 110809)
Task Force Beds DO NOT USE wooden mounting blocks. But thin rubber pads were used under the bed cross sills on most beds.
We sell the rubber pads that fit under the crossills to help make for a quieter ride.
All Task Force Beds have 8 Yellow Pine boards per bed and require 7 bed strips and 2 angles.
