Rico's Parts Techno' Notes

1947 was the year of the new "Advance Design" or "AD" (nickname) truck line
1947 to early 1951 Pickup Bed had 9 boards of "hard" "Longleaf Yellow Pine"
In mid '51, "AD's" went to 8 bed boards
All "AD" beds are 50" Wide x 77", 85-3/4" or 107-1/2" in length as: 1/2, 3/4 or 1-ton respectively; depth was 15" until 1954 (17")
47-51 Short-bed needs 1 front cross sill, 2 center sills, and a rear sill (9 boards)
51-53 Short-bed needs 1 front cross sill, 2 center sills, and 1 rear sill (8 boards)
47-51 Long-bed needs 1 front cross sill, 4 center cross sills, and 1 rear cross sill
51-53 Long-bed needs 1 front cross sill, 4 center cross sills, and 1 rear cross sill
47-51 1-Ton needs 4 cross sills, and 1 rear cross sill (4th sill = front sill on 1 Ton bed)
51-53 1-Ton needs 4 cross sills and 1 rear cross sill
Rear Cross Sills are often also called "rear crossmembers" (That's OK by us)
47-53 "AD's" could be ordered as a 1/2 Ton (116" wheelbase), 3/4 Ton (125.22 wheelbase) and a 1 Ton (137" wheelbase)
47-53 wooden mounting blocks and rubber pads were used under the bed cross sills
Mounting blocks were also installed under the rear cross sill (blocks were eliminated in 1954)
We sell mounting blocks in both original wood or full black urethane blocks for a quieter ride
1954 to 1955 "AD" beds a bit different than the 47-53 beds (more 54-55 1st series data below
GMC Stepsides had an option that put 85-3/4" bed on a 1/2 Ton Chassis, but Chevy did not offer that option (89") until the 2nd Series 55's
54-55 Short beds are the same width, but they are 1/4" longer and the sides are taller than the 47-53 bedsides and they have 8 pine boards
54-55 Short beds use 3 cross sills, and the rear crossmember (Bed now 77-1/4" long)
54-55 Long beds use 4 cross sills and the rear crossmember (Bed remained same length 108")
A 9 board bed requires 8 bed strips, and the 8 board bed requires 7 bed strips
